Desktop files database

When you press super key in your window manager you will most likely get a searchable and clickable menu / list of applications. When you install a new application you will get the corresponding menu item. Sometimes you want to make your own entries.

Add a new file ~/.local/share/applications/myapp.desktop and make it look something like this:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=Application
Categories=Application;
Name=My New Application
Icon=~/Pictures/MyApp.png
Exec=/opt/myall/bin/myapp
Terminal=false
GenericName=My Special New App

Just run command

update-desktop-database

And your new menu item should be there.
